Why I’m *really* thankful for studying.

May 14, 2014

This is something I needed to hear…the truths in here…and still need to hear.

beautifulsilliness

So yesterday I woke up to an email telling me that I passed my PGDip with commendation.

Which is completely-heart-bubbling-over-awesome-news for me.

In normal-English, what this means is that everything I need to do for my Masters, except for my dissertation, is now handed in completed, marked and approved by the exam board.

And passed.

And not just passed, but passed well.

So right now, I could graduate with a PGDip in Community Learning and Development with Theology. When I complete my dissertation later this year, that should become an MTh.

I’m so incredibly thankful to so many people who have helped and supported me in this study-journey over the last two years. (Because, you know, without anything else, working full time and studying part time is super difficult!)

I’m so incredibly thankful to Jesus.

I’m so thankful for the place of safety Bible College has been for me and…

Some Rhetorical Questions about Love, Foot Washing, and Gaydar

April 29, 2014

Powerful stuff!!!!

The Unexpected Pastor

FootWashing Questions for the day:  If proposed legislation passes that would “protect” Christian businesses from having to serve gay folks, how will those Christians know who is gay and who is not?  Where exactly is gaydar on those lists of gifts of the Spirit in either Romans or I Corninthians ?

Undaunted by their defeat in Arizona, some Christians are pushing laws in other states that would allow discrimination for religious reasons.  This is not just a “gay issue;” there is no enumeration in some of these laws of who could be excluded on religious grounds.  I suppose Christian businesses could refuse to serve those who live together without being married, unwed mothers, people with tattoos, men with long hair, women with short hair or wearing jewelry, and on and on.

Here’s another pair of questions:  Aren’t we Christians called to serve our neighbor? And wasn’t Jesus’ point in…

Joshua 10:22 – 13:23

Word of the Day:

“And Joshua captured all these kings and their land at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.” “And the land had rest from war.” Joshua 10:42 & 11:23

The other day I was feeling low and the phrase “apart from Me you can do nothing” kept popping in and out of my head. I felt like a failure, I felt like “no one” was reading my blog or my books and I felt like I was being a horrible mom. In frustration I flopped down on my bed and allowed my mind to go where God was leading it. I looked up John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” And as I…

gandhi

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians.  Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.  —Mahatma Gandhi

When I saw this quote, I thought I was going to literally sob!  I thought, “Father, what has happened??”  In the word it says in the last days the love of the CHURCH will wax cold!  In many churches, people have become clannish, my four and no more, my family is all I need and you are not one of them!  I have witnessed this with my own eyes.

When we become critical of others in the church, or Christians in general, we will always see the wrong and it will make us angry.  We will then make ourselves an entity unto ourselves!  The devil comes as an angel of light, but he comes and points out faults and then tries to get you to reason…

the prayer of commital

If you will practice what I am about to share with you, this will be the last day you will ever have a worried thought. You can commit yourself and all the cares and worries of your mind to Him and enjoy divine peace. God is vehemently against worry. It does not produce anything but stress, strain and death. Jesus preached against it. Paul preached against it. The whole Bible is against worry because Satan designed it.

Take Philippians 4:6-7 as a command. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The Amplified Bible says, “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything.” I Peter 5:6-7 says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God…
